Chess in Tel Aviv and Gush Dan

Chess around Tel Aviv lives on the federation calendar. Registered clubs in Ramat Aviv, Ramat Gan, Petah Tikva, Herzliya, Kfar Saba and the towns between them play autumn rounds, Friday rapids and memorial days in community centres. In the city itself a wine bar on King George Street hosts the ChessBar evenings on Tuesdays, and technology firms take turns hosting a monthly meetup. The clubs come first below, then every place to sit down and play.

Chess960 in Tel Aviv

Israeli tournament titles on chess-results.com for 2025 to 2027 were read for Chess960, Fischer Random and their Hebrew names. In the Tel Aviv area one evening turned up: a ChessBar Israel night played with shuffled back ranks. The national Fischer Random championship went to Jerusalem, outside the area this guide covers.

In Chess960 the pieces behind the pawns start in one of 960 arrangements, so prepared openings stop mattering from the first move. Between local evenings it can be played online at ch960.com.

How these lists are ordered and checked

The cards are built from the Israel Chess Federation's club register, where each club's page gives its address and the tournaments it is running, from the event rows of chess-results.com, and from the pages of the bar series, the meetups and the city's chess community centre. Every fact carries the day its page was read.

Each list opens with the place whose pages show chess most recently; the order is not a verdict on quality. When no page answers a question, such as a fee, a weekly evening or whether a visitor may simply sit down, the card says so instead of guessing. The status lines and what the guide leaves out are explained on how the guide is made.

Does your club or evening meet in Gush Dan?

Most clubs here have only their federation page, and a bar night or a meetup moves faster than any register. A link to a page that shows where and when you play is all it takes to add it.
